A Living, Thriving Marae

Marae Location

Kawa Marae is nestled in Moanauriuri bay on the north-western side of Aotea. 

Aotea

Aotea (Great Barrier Island) lies 100 kilometres north east of Auckland, a 30-minute flight, or 4-hour boat trip from Auckland.

The Trust

Ngatiwai o Aotea Kawa Marae Trust aka Kawa 3 Part Maori Reservation Trust is the legal entity that administers a total of 1,214 hectares of Maori land that was set apart as Maori Reservation on the 28 March 1978.

Our Whenua

On 25 February 1999, Kawa B3 Part block of land was set aside under the Maori Affairs Act 1953 section 437 as a Maori Reservation
 for a Marae and meeting place for the beneficiaries of Ngatiwai of Aotea (Great Barrier Island).

Kawa Marae is situated in the beautiful Kawa Bay at the north end of Aotea, Great Barrier Island. Our marae is run by the Ngātiwai o Aotea Kawa Marae Trust Board.

Welcome back Rodney has previously served multiple years on the Trust, some of those as Chair. We are pleased to have him home and sharing his knowledge and experience with us.
